Ohio Grants Clemency to Man Who was Too Obese for Prison

Ronald Post has ballooned to 450 pounds since his incarceration 30 years ago.  The courts were wondering if his obesity was enough reason to consider him for clemency, and that issue was being considered by Governor John Kasich.  But the issue was skirted when Kasich decided that there were too many problems with Post’s representation 30 years ago.  As a result, he’s had his sentence commuted.

The inmate had also argued that his execution amounted to cruel and unusual punishment.  We’re not sure if he made the argument because he was big or for some other reason.  He has not been let out of prison.  He has had his sentence changed to life in prison with no chance for parole.

Post had been sentenced to die for the murder of Helen Vantz, a hotel clerk, during a robbery in 1983.
