When your child has a serious mental illness and you’ve got a stockpile of weapons, it might not be such  good idea to leave him in the house by himself for several days at a time. That’s what police are saying about Nancy Lanza, the mother of Adam Lanza, the young man who murdered 20 children and six adults in cold blood at the Sandy Hook Elementary School.

Police say that during this time, her son might have become so enraged at his mother that he shot her when she came back home and then massacred the children at the nearby school.  Police say that Adam and his mother didn’t speak for the entire three days that she was gone.

Nancy’s trip took her to New Hampshire.   She would cook his food for him before she left town because she didn’t want him cooking while he was alone.  A friend said that Nancy would often drive to New Hampshire to relax and that she was in “good spirits” on the trip.   The New York Daily News is saying that Adam wasn’t speaking to his mother because she wanted him to interact more with the world. She was also concerned that he would sit in his room all day playing violent video games like Call of Duty, in which the character runs through military battlefields with assault weapons, murdering everything in sight.

Adam had also not spoken with his father since 2010.
